Silver jewelry is usually gold-plated. A very thin layer of gold or rose gold is applied to the jewelry using a chemical process in a so-called galvanic bath. The thickness of this layer is measured in microns (µm). It is approximately 0.1 to 0.2 µm thick, which corresponds to approximately 0.0001 to 0.0002 mm. At Sono Jewelery we speak of gold or rose gold plating. This overlay is more than 100 times stronger than a normal ink overlay, namely approx. 3-5 µm thick and therefore of course more durable and longer lasting. However, it is always an overlay that can wear out over time. Depending on how much friction the piece of jewelry comes into contact with, this happens after a short time or takes longer. The good thing is that color plating can always be refreshed and the piece of jewelry looks like new.
